Nigeria Union of Journalists condemn Benue killings

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna State chapter, has condemned in strong terms the rampant killings in Benue State.

Raising from its monthly congress in Kaduna on Thursday, members called on the federal government to, as a matter of urgency put a stop to the incessant killings and destruction of property of innocent people in Benue State and other parts of the country.
A communique issued and signed by the NUJ chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, said, “The congress noted the rampant killings in Benue State in particularly, the incident at the Catholic Church in Ukpor- Mbalom Community and warned that such were clearly aimed at stoking up religious conflict in the country.
”The Union also expressed concern over the security situation in the country and urged the Federal Government to overhaul the Security apparatus in the country for the better.
”The union commended the efforts of the Kaduna State government in the provision of infrastructure in the state but enjoined the state government to ensure equitable distribution of such projects across the whole State so as to douse the feelings of marginalization in some quarters.
”The union frowned at the indiscriminate manner with which both government and the private media organizations were laying off its members without due processes and warned that the union would wade into such matter to protect it’s members.
”The council strongly condemned the activities of some people who masquerade themselves as veteran journalists on facebook, saying that they are not members of the Nigeria Union of journalists.
”The meeting expressed it’s heartfelt condolences to it’s former Chairman, Mr. Andrew Fadason over the demise of his father, Mr. Aboki Fadason and pray God to grant him, family and relations the fortitude to bear the loss.”
